My roommate back in university can probably tell you how many times Placebo's songs were reverberating in our room circa 2003/2004. And last night, I finally saw the band perform at KL Live, Kuala Lumpur. It was a wicked experience — there was so much energy and the lights were amazing! (The lights? What in the world, Nora?)
Thanks for the tickets, Nokia Music Malaysia!
P.S. The photos, especially of Brian Molko, is dedicated to Peanut, who wanted to go but couldn't.

I really, really want to see you guys(everyone) do this meme, but the above 3 must do this meme or else... I will visit them while they're asleep... ^p^...
EDIT: Almost forgotten to mention this earlier! I've switched my Twitter account to this new one, a bunch of ya who were watching my 2nd account already added it, thanks! I'm not sure if anyone wanted to add me back so I won't add until i've been added ;_; I do tend to spam a lot of nonsense

Hi! This was my first shot at using the gas oven at my apartment that does not have a temperature gauge. (So basically I was testing my new oven thermometer.) The recipe does not use oil/butter/etc and makes really, really good muffins.

Yet another fit of baking.
( Potato Bacon Soup )
( Pies For Pi Day! )
I adore this idea. As a single person, when I get the urge to bake something sweet, I'm kind of screwed. Either I keep it at home and end up overindulging or throwing most of it out... or I take it to work and become popular, but spend money feeding other people. :/ Individually-sized pies? HEAVEN.
Pi Pie Day was a fun day. :D And is going to end on a delicious note, eventually, when this darned pie finishes cooking. Oooh right, time to go whip the whipped cream... *drool*
Edit: and now with post-baking photos! At least of the pumpkin, although you can probably tell from this one what's going to happen with the chicken pies :P
( Yet more pictures! )
Mmm. Pie. Unlike my photo attempts, the crust recipe was perfect. I discovered that despite futzing around forever with the thickness in the bottom rim, they still came out too thick - the bottom and bottom rim of the crust was still doughy. Fortunately, this minor tragedy was easily averted by eating around the bottom. ;) Next time I'll probably dip a small glass in flour and work the edges a bit more - again, with short, fat fingers, this was not particularly easy for me. Thank god this recipe calls for the short, fat jars is all I can say. ;p
The filling was a definite success. I was really worried about that as I had no family recipe to go by, and had to just kind of close my eyes and click around Google to find something. This one had a fantastic flavor, warm and sort of party-in-your-mouth-y, but not spicy enough that you couldn't taste the pumpkin. I'm already planning to make apple pies next weekend. XD

Hello
bakebakebakers!
I'm putting out some feelers for recipes for icing/frostings that don't have an abundance of icing sugar in them but are pretty easy to make. My sister is planning to make a cake for my nephew's upcoming birthday and would like to make it herself. Cream cheese frostings have already been crossed off the list.
So, fellow bakers, do you have any suggestions for me? White icings that are easy to colour for decoration purposes would be preferable.
Thanks for you help guys. :)

Getting a table at Carl's Jr. in Mid Valley is like winning the jackpot — every time I felt like sinking my teeth into their Famous StarĀ® single-patty burger and flavorsome fries, the joint is always packed with diners and waiting for a table means waiting a really long time.
Yesterday, Suff and I decided to try our luck again, despite our many failed attempts in the past. Our perseverance paid off when we scored a table at about 2.30pm.
Halfway through my cholesterol-laden lunch, I noticed a group of teenagers hunched over 2 tables next to us. Nothing out of the ordinary except none of them were Carl's Jr.'s patrons — they were gorging on McDonald's and completely oblivious to the people who were anxiously rubbernecking for a table — I wouldn't have cared as much if the store was fairly empty. As someone on the receiving end of always having to wait a really long time for a table there, I guess I got a little miffed.
Have we lost all sense of courtesy? It's more than just about the "no outside food" rule; it's about being considerate and mindful of actual paying customers, of other people. And the worst thing? No one else cared. The manager and staff weren't attentive to the situation and other customers kept their eyes on their food. There was absolutely zero compassion. And at that moment, I hated myself for not doing anything about it.
P.S. Carl's Jr.'s fries are really good.

I finally tried making macarons this weekend after being too scared to do it for too long.
These are dyed green, have about 3 drops of mint oil in them, and the filling is mint chocolate ganache.

So fun! I can't wait to try other combos... next weekend when my mom is here I'm going to use hazelnut meal instead of almond meal and fill them with choc ganache, yummm

I must admit that for the most part I really just focus on the sweet stuff. Recently I was watching Barefoot Contessa and Ina Garten (my hero!) had a fantastic recipe for Baked Shrimp Scampi so I just had to try my hand at something baked and savory.

I baked a lovely apple-cinnamon chip bundt cake on a Sunday afternoon, I am officially in love with cinnamon chips :D

These chocolate chip cookies were amazing and the recipe was so simple! Chewy, not too sweet and the nuts worked well with it too.

I had my first official paid cake commission this weekend! It was for a parent and child lunch thing at a school so I made half grown up cupcakes and half kiddy ones. These are the grown up ones.
Recipe and general babblings here at my blog.
ps. There's no lavender in them but considering the colour and the little sugar flower, I realised afterwards it probably would've made a nice addition!

I absolutely hate strawberries but I made these strawberry muffins last summer that required well strawberries (fresh or frozen) and strawberry yogurt. Everyone absolutely loved them and now that strawberries in the stores are starting to look edible again my siblings are asking for these muffins BUT I lost the recipe. :( If you lovely folks would be kind enough to share your recipes for strawberry muffins that have strawberry yogurt as one of the ingredients that would be wonderful!

Oh talented bakers of Livejournal! Please help!
I need a really basic recipe for vanilla cupcakes (that can be easily adapted to lime) or lime cupcakes that uses self raising flour. I don't have any buttermilk or other types of flour, and 2 limes that are just sitting in my fruit bowl begging to be used. Every recipe I come across requires buttermilk, and I don't have any (unless cider vinegar is suitable for making your own buttermilk?)
help!!

Hello everyone!
For my baking class, I've been instructed to bake a layer cake and frost it. However, my teacher didn't give us any recipes or guidelines. Unfortunately for me, my entire family just started a diet last month, so having an cake at home would serve little purpose and would probably just go to waste.
So, does anyone here have a good layer cake and frosting recipe? Preferably a simple recipe without too much work or fanciness, I'm not exactly a pro. Thanks! :)
